Wednesday Brews is a small social meetup group in Long Island City, New York. This page describes exactly what we store and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Your mobile number. Required. It is your account, and it is how we send you the weekly message.
- Your name. Required. Other members see your first name and last initial.
- Your location. Optional, and only what you type — neighborhood, city, state. We do not collect GPS or device location.
- A profile photo and social handles. Optional, and only if you add them.
- Your attendance and RSVPs. Which gatherings you said you were coming to, and which you checked in at.
- Messages you send us. Replies to our texts are stored so an organiser can read and answer them.
Who can see it
- Your phone number is never shown to other members and never appears in the member directory.
- Other signed-in members can see your name, photo, location, social links, join date, and attendance record.
- Nothing about you is visible to the public web. Signed-out visitors cannot see the member list, the photos, or even which venue we are meeting at.
- Group organisers (hosts and admins) can additionally see your phone number and your messages, because that is what running the group requires.
Who we share it with
Nobody. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, and there is no advertising on this site.
Two services necessarily handle data on our behalf: Twilio, which delivers our text messages and therefore processes your phone number, and our own server, which is operated by the group's organiser. We use a self-hosted, privacy-preserving analytics tool that counts page views without cookies and without tracking individuals across sites.
Text messages
You will get roughly one to three messages a week. Reply STOP to any of them to stop all messages immediately; reply START to resume. You can also turn off individual categories — reminders, photos, extracurriculars — in your profile. Message and data rates may apply.
Your choices
- Change anything. Your name, location, photo, and message preferences are all editable in your profile.
- Leave the group. One click stops every message and hides you from the directory, while keeping your attendance history in case you come back.
- Delete your account. Also one click. Your profile stops being visible to anyone and you can no longer sign in.
- Ask us anything. Email cheers@wednesdaybrews.com and a human will answer.
How long we keep it
For as long as the group runs, because attendance history is the point of the leaderboard. If you want your record erased outright rather than hidden, email us and we will do it.
Children
This is a group that meets in bars. It is not intended for anyone under 21.
